Les images du film Chemical Somnia (2023), réalisé par Scott Portingale, ont été créées à l’aide des réactions chimiques qui ont été filmées à une échelle microscopique à l’intérieur des boîtes de Petri, grâce à la technique du time-lapse.

Le défi consistait à créer non seulement des sons « organiques », mais également à explorer des textures sonores en arrimage aux différentes réactions chimiques à travers le film, tout en demeurant musical. Ce projet constitue un exemple concret de storytelling textural, où la matière sonore elle-même dicte le fil conducteur de ce court-métrage.

The visuals from the short film Chemical Somnia (2023), directed by Scott Portingale, were created using chemical reactions filmed at a microscopic scale inside Petri dishes, utilizing time-lapse photography.

The challenge was not only to forge "organic" sounds but also to explore sonic textures that align with the various chemical reactions shifting throughout the film, while maintaining a strong musical foundation. This project stands as a concrete example of textural storytelling, where the sound material itself drives the narrative thread of the short film.
